Provider roles
Which providers are linked, and how much to trust each link.
Independent sources
The register admits an entity only when independent sources agree. These are those sources: each is its own line of evidence, and their agreement is what lets a player, team or match into the register. If you hold an ID from one of these, it is a first-class join key.
- Opta (Stats Perform) opta 875,299 rows shares this line of evidence: ESPNSecond SpectrumFBrefSofascoreKicker
- Wyscout (Hudl) wyscout 660,973 rows
- Transfermarkt transfermarkt 602,539 rows shares this line of evidence: Soccerdonna
- FBref (DSG era) fbref_dsg 69,947 rows
- Worldfootball worldfootball 38,621 rows
Bridge-only sources
Their IDs are linked and just as usable for joining data across systems, but they don’t count as an independent line of evidence when the register decides whether two records are the same real-world thing. They add reach and cross-references, not corroboration.

Overlay sources
A convenience layer only, with helpful extra names and identifiers rather than evidence that an entity exists or can be mapped across providers. It is kept clearly separate from the linked sources above.
- Wikidata wikidata 89,469 rows
“Same line of evidence” means two providers ultimately draw on the same collection, so they agree by construction. The register counts them once. Roles are derived from the register’s own independence doctrine, not set by hand.
Country and region coverage
410 competitions across 92 countries or regions.
Two views of the same register: cross-border competitions grouped by scope, and country-by-country coverage. Click a marker or a country for its competitions, rows with no person counts are structural coverage, not a claim that person coverage is absent upstream.
Regional and international competitions
World Cups, continental championships and cross-border club cups, grouped by the confederation or scope that runs them. Click a marker for its competitions.
Country coverage
Darker green means more competitions covered. England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are mapped as their own football nations.
Too small for the map, also covered:
Provider findings
What we find in our sources, and report back.
A provider finding is something a source got wrong at scale, such as a recurring pattern, a wrong result, a duplicated ID. Each one is verified against independent evidence, corrected in the register, and offered back to the provider. Public surfaces show only these aggregate counts. Provider names, examples and payloads stay in private packets.
Separately, the pipeline logged 0 internal data-operations events this period (freshness re-fetches, name and ID-link review holds). Those are housekeeping on our side, not provider findings.
Summary generated at 2026-07-21T00:19:11+00:00.
Provider findings of this kind.
A source’s final score disagreed with the independent majority for the same match. The register records the majority and keeps each dissent for that provider’s correction feed.
Systematic oddities we have documented at a source include calendar conventions that shift dates, gender routing mistakes, snapshot scope and conflated records. They are written down as rules and reportable as a pattern, not a one-off.
Provider findings of this kind.
Boundary
Known public-surface caveats.
Coverage is added competition by competition, each under its own stamped release. We don’t claim blanket coverage of everything a provider carries.
A provider’s role here describes what appears in the public files. It says nothing about what we hold privately, and it isn’t a claim about the provider’s own product.
Wikidata-derived identifiers are provided as a convenience only, not as automatic evidence that an entity exists or can be mapped across providers.
Bridge-only sources make the register more useful for joining data, but they don’t count towards the independent-evidence bar an entity must clear to be admitted.
